Terry Chesnut has spent 14 years in the construction industry. He's owned a spray foam insulation business and a roofing company before founding The Paint Guys in Lafayette in 2019. He wears his heart on his sleeve, loves taking care of people, and built this company around making clients genuinely happy with their results. Today he's recognized as the area's number one historic home specialist and restoration expert.
The Paint Guys handle interior and exterior painting for homes and businesses across south Louisiana, along with real restoration work: soffit and fascia repair, stucco patching, sheetrock, Hardie siding, and more. Every job starts with proper prep. Surfaces are cleaned, sanded, patched, and primed before any paint touches the wall. Floors and furniture get covered. A uniformed crew shows up on time.
When the job's done, we clean up and walk the property with you. That's the standard on every project, not just the big ones.
Our Standards
The details below aren't bullet points from a brochure. They're what actually happens on every job.
Prep before everything else
Paint fails when the surface underneath isn't ready. We clean, sand, patch, caulk, and prime before any paint goes on. Interior walls get sheetrock repairs closed and feathered smooth. Exterior surfaces get pressure washed, damaged wood removed, and bare spots spot-primed. Skipping prep is how you get peeling in two years. We don't skip it.
Protecting your property on every job
Before we start, floors get drop cloths. Furniture gets moved or wrapped. Trim, fixtures, and hardware get masked. Outside, we cover landscaping, hardscape, and anything near the work area. You shouldn't have to worry about what we're stepping on or brushing against. That concern belongs to us, not you.
An English-speaking foreman on site, every day
Every jobsite has a foreman who speaks English and is responsible for the crew and the quality of the work. You can ask them a question, point out a concern, or change direction on a detail without it getting lost. There's a specific person accountable for your project, and you can reach them directly.
Real restoration, not paint-over
A lot of painting companies will paint over problems they find. We don't. If a soffit is rotted, we replace it. If stucco has cracked, we patch and resurface it. If sheetrock is damaged, we fix it properly before we prime. We also handle Hardie siding installation, dormer repair, and vinyl siding when a job calls for it. The goal is a result that holds, not one that looks good on day one and fails by winter.

We're based in Lafayette and do most of our work in south Louisiana. Terry knows this market, the homes, and the climate. That matters when you're picking materials or figuring out why a previous paint job failed.
We're not a franchise and we're not dispatching crews from a call center. When you call, you're reaching a local company that works in your area every week. We regularly take jobs in Opelousas, New Iberia, Youngsville, Broussard, St. Martinville, Rayne, Ville Platte, and surrounding towns — and for historic home restoration, we travel up to 3 hours.
